Today Surescripts announced that Pulse Systems, Inc. has achieved Gold Solution Provider status for e-prescribing with their software solution. This status is granted to vendors with software products that have surpassed Surescripts’ baseline product certification to meet criteria that demonstrate a higher level of commitment to e-prescribing. E-prescribers using the Pulse Complete EHR solution have prescription benefit information, prescription history and prescription routing. Pulse is one of only seven EHR/EMR Software vendors to achieve this status.

Gold Solution Provider status recognizes physician technology vendors that are advancing electronic prescribing with customers in the United States. This certification identifies physician technology vendors’ products that leverage the complete resources and capabilities of Surescripts and its network to improve the safety, efficiency and quality of the prescribing process.

Basil Hourani, President and CEO of Pulse Systems<ins cite="mailto:Honomichl,%20Marisa" datetime="2011-08-17T15:12">,</ins> Inc., stated, “Pulse has been working diligently for a year to achieve this designation in order to provide Pulse e-prescribing clients with the assurance they are utilizing the safest, most efficient and highest quality e-prescribing solution available. The Surescripts designation provides third party confirmation to our clients that Pulse is accomplishing this goal.”

“For physicians…Gold Solution Provider status helps them know which software vendors are meeting the highest standards for e-prescribing,” said Mary Martin, Senior Vice President of Customers and Markets for Surescripts. “We congratulate Pulse Systems on completing Gold level certification for their respective products in 2010.”

To utilize the Surescripts network, prescribers, pharmacies and PBMs must use software that has completed the Surescripts certification process. This process ensures that the software is able to send and receive electronic messages and share prescription information in accordance with industry standards and that it provides open-choice for medication selection and dispensing location. Additionally, certification focuses on patient safety, efficiency of the electronic prescribing process and ease of use by end users.

of Their Certified Pulse Complete EHR System

Hillside Medical Office of Wichita, KS recently achieved the successful attestation of the Meaningful Use of their Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, allowing them to qualify for their first government incentive payments. Hillside Medical is a group of seven board-certified family medicine physicians and 40 employees with a tradition of medical excellence that dates back to 1947. In 2009 Hillside Medical began its search for a certified EHR solution soon after the passage of the Health Information Technology for Economic Clinical Health Act.
In just over one year the medical organization successfully implemented both a Practice Management and an EHR and met the standards set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to prove they are successfully implementing the Meaningful Use of the system. Hillside Medical’s search focused on finding an integrated EHR and Practice Management solution that would improve workflow efficiencies and promote continued delivery of quality patient care while advancing use of technology to achieve Government Meaningful Use Objectives. “We looked at a large number of vendors, and then narrowed the search to three after initial assessments,” said David A. Gordon, CPA, Practice Administrator at Hillside Medical. All functional areas of responsibility participated in the evaluation of those three in order to confirm that the solution selected would meet its needs.

After a formal system selection process, Hillside Medical purchased the PulsePro Practice Management solution and the CCHIT®-certified 2011 Pulse Complete EHR from Pulse Systems, Inc. Hillside Medical selected the Pulse solution due to various factors including its functionality and flexibility in meeting the needs of the practice in a demanding environment.

Hillside Medical worked with the Kansas Regional Extension Center to select the Clinical Quality Measures that the physicians would utilize to demonstrate its Meaningful Use of a Complete EHR. They began measuring their progress toward meeting the Meaningful Use requirements in early 2011. “The Pulse system provided reports which allowed me to quickly and easily measure and monitor our progress on every requirement and identify any adjustments necessary.” said Gordon.

The practice initiated its 90-day meaningful use tracking period on May 1, 2011 and successfully completed its attestation on August 2nd. Gordon recognizes the hard work and coordinated efforts of the Hillside Medical and Pulse teams in making the transition a smooth process. “It is remarkable what we have accomplished in only a year.” Gordon said. “I am proud of my employees and physicians and thankful that we selected Pulse as our vendor.”

Glozer, MHA, FACHE. VHIT is a program of VHQC, a health quality consulting firm that also serves as Virginia’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization.

Doctors across Virginia will also be able to take advantage of Pulse’s guarantee that ensures eligible providers meet EHR certification requirements for Meaningful Use and maximize their ability to receive 2011 reimbursement funds authorized by the HITECH Act. “I am confident that our partnership with Pulse will help Virginia primary care providers make meaningful use of electronic health records to improve patient care and health quality,” Glozer added.

Pulse Systems, Inc. announced today that 2011 Pulse Complete EHR, Version 2011, is 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a Complete EHR on September 30, 2010 by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®), an ONC-ATCB, in accordance with the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The 2011/2012 criteria support the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

“I am certain our clients will be at the front of the line when the incentive payments begin in April 2011—the first of five payments totaling up to $44,000. This is because our EHR product is in the first group to receive this landmark certification. This mirrors our industry-leading accomplishment in being the first to receive the full comprehensive CCHIT® 2011 certification in December of 2009,” said Basil Hourani, President and CEO of Pulse Systems.

“We built our EHR software with the capability to be used in a meaningful way to help our clients provide more efficient patient care before that concept was even legislated,” he said. “This foresight is the primary reason that we were able to receive certification so promptly.”

The ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certification program tests and certifies that Complete EHRs meet all of the 2011/2012 criteria and EHR Modules meet one or more – but not all – of the criteria approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) for either eligible provider or hospital technology.

“CCHIT® is pleased to be testing and certifying products so that companies are now able to offer these products to providers who wish to purchase and implement certified EHR technology and achieve meaningful use in time for the 2011-2012 incentives,” said Karen M. Bell, M.D., M.S.S., Chair, CCHIT®.

2011/2012 certification conferred by CCHIT® does not represent an endorsement of the certified EHR technology by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services nor does it guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.

The clinical quality measures to which 2011 Pulse Complete EHR has been certified include:

NFQ 0421 Adult Weight Screening

NFQ 0013 HTN: Blood Pressure Management

NFQ 0028 Preventative Care Measure Screen

A) Smoking/ Tobacco

B) Smokers who received cessation

NFQ 0041 Influenza Immunization

NFQ 0024 Weight Assessment & Counseling

NFQ 0038 Childhood Immunization Status

NFQ 0031 Breast Cancer Screening

NFQ 0034 Colorectal Cancer Screening

NFQ 0032 Cervical Cancer Screening

2011 Pulse Complete EHR version 2011 is also certified in CCHIT®’s separate and independently developed certification program. 2011 Pulse Complete EHR version 2011 is a CCHIT Certified® 2011 Ambulatory EHR, additionally certified for Child Health. Pulse Systems has certified its EHR technology in both programs to provide greater assurance to its customers.

Infectious Disease Consultants has chosen to adopt Pulse EHR Lite and PulsePro for all of it’s electronic health records and practice management,. These solutions will increase efficiency by integrating practice workflow and patient information into one comprehensive system.

The strength of PulsePro along with the flexibility of Pulse EHR Lite were contributing factors in IDC’s choice. PulsePro will manage the practice’s financial, clinical and administrative processes; Pulse EHR Lite will allow IDC physicians to tactilely interact with familiar documentation, while benefiting from electronic storage of that information. “We knew we needed to begin using electronic health records,” said IDC practice manager Doug Kaufman. “We chose Pulse EHR Lite because it provided a way for us to implement electronic records while minimizing any change to the physician experience.”

Infectious Disease Consultants was founded in 1979 in Wichita, Kansas. With seven physicians and nine physician assistants, it is the largest infectious disease practice in the state outside of the Kansas City metropolitan area. IDC has a comprehensive system for managing complex infections through antibiotic infusion therapy, and provides inpatient and outpatient consultation services throughout Wichita and in Hutchinson and Newton.

“As the premier infectious disease practice in the state, Infectious Disease Consultants provides crucial services throughout the area,” said president and CEO of Pulse Basil Hourani. “We look forward to providing this longstanding practice with an easier way to manage their workflow and care for patients.”

About Infectious Disease Consultants

Infectious Disease Consultants (IDC) was founded by Hewitt Goodpasture, MD in Oct. of 1979. It is the largest infectious disease medical practice outside of the Kansas City metropolitan area in the state of Kansas. Its seven physicians provide services at all of the hospitals in Wichita and travel to Newton and Hutchinson to provide infectious disease consultations.

Pulse, an industry-leading vendor of ambulatory healthcare software solutions, announced today that Abay Neuroscience Center has chosen to adopt its end-to-end organic solution for electronic health records and practice management needs — Pulse Patient Relationship Management (PRM).

Abay’s decision was influenced by the functionality and workflow automation of the solution, as well as the ability to utilize Pulse’s transition approach to implementation. “By making this change one step at a time instead of one dramatic overhaul, we will be able to adjust without costly interruptions,” said Abay clinic administrator Earle Brown.

Pulse vice president of sales Doug Johnson said originally Abay was only searching for an EHR system. After seeing how the practice management system, PulsePro, and Pulse EHR worked together to encompass every practice need, they decided to go with the full PRM solution. “They were convinced we could successfully implement the solution, and that we could make their lives easier,” he said.

Founded in 1986 as a solo practice, Abay has grown to become the largest neurosurgery center in the greater Wichita metropolitan area, with clinics in Hutchinson and Great Bend. Abay’s seven physicians have a spectrum of surgical specialties including neuro-oncology, and degenerative, traumatic and minimally invasive spine surgery.

“We look forward to working with Abay, one of the nations’ most prominent neurosurgery practices,” said president and CEO of Pulse Basil Hourani. “The Pulse Patient Relationship Management solution will provide nurses, administrators, and physicians alike with an easier way to manage practice functions.”

About Abay Neuroscience

Abay Neuroscience was founded in July 1986 and today is the largest neurosurgery practice in the greater Wichita metropolitan area, serving patients throughout the Midwest. Its physicians and staff can handle the most complex neurosurgical and spinal issues with the latest technology and education available to neurosurgeons.

Pulse Inc. EHR has been accepted as a vendor of electronic health records (EHR) technology for seven Regional Extension Centers (RECs) in Florida, Texas, Nebraska, and Tennessee.

Pulse is currently an accepted vendor at seven Regional Extension Centers:

South Florida Regional Extension Center (SFREC) – Florida

North Texas Regional Extension Center (NTREC) – Texas

Gulf Coast Regional Extension Center (GCREC) – Texas

CentrEast Regional Extension Center (CEREC) – Texas

Texas Tech University Health Science Center – Texas

Wide River Technology Extension Center – Nebraska

tnREC – Tennessee

Pulse’s association with RECs in a variety of regions demonstrates the company’s national reach and proves that the Pulse solution is an optimal choice for practices.

The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) mandated the creation of an estimated 70 non-profit Regional Extension Centers to help physicians become meaningful users of certified EHRs. The RECs will offer guidance in choosing an EHR system based on practice needs, provide technical assistance, and help doctors fulfill Meaningful Use requirements in order to qualify for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs.

Pulse President and CEO Basil Hourani said that because many of the Regional Extension Centers are in the early stages of development, this first wave of REC participation will be followed by more. “In the application process we extensively attested to our solution’s functionality, usability, and interoperability,” he said. “Our acceptance is further third-party verification of the excellence of our solution,” he said.
