Basil Hourani
Director, President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Basil Hourani has served as President since co-founding the Company in 1997 and was appointed as CEO in January 2007. Mr. Hourani has extensive expertise in current and emerging technologies and a thorough understanding of the workflow and issues encountered by physicians and their staffs from practices of all sizes. Mr. Hourani is responsible for building a network of distinguished customers across the nation that serves as the revenue foundation for the Company as well as product leadership initiatives. Mr. Hourani serves as a distinguished speaker on current industry needs and trends. Prior to joining Pulse, Mr. Hourani served as the President and CEO of MEDCAT Corporation, a healthcare information technology company that he founded in 1985 which later became part of Pulse. Mr. Hourani earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas. Mr. Hourani serves as a board and committee member for various national, regional, and local trade organizations.
Jeff Burton, JD
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Burton joined the Company in 2001 as its CFO. Prior to joining the Company as its CFO, Mr. Burton served in various executive management roles in accounting and finance, corporate development and operations with industry leaders including Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation and Hallmark, Inc. In addition, Mr. Burton has extensive experience in the development and expansion of successful entrepreneurial organizations. Mr. Burton earned his undergraduate degree from Wichita State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law. Mr. Burton is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Alif Hourani, PhD
Executive Chairman & Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Alif Hourani is a co-founder of Pulse and has, since its formation, served as CTO and as CEO until January of 2007. Mr. Hourani directs the Company’s Product Research and Development. From 1987 to 1997, Mr. Hourani held various positions, including CEO of PCA Data Systems, a division of Physician Corporation of America (“PCA”), Senior Vice President of Management Information Systems of PCA, and Manager of Computer Engineering at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation. PCA was a publicly traded HMO which was acquired by Humana, Inc., in 1997. Mr. Hourani received his undergraduate degree from the University of Lyon, France, and his Masters of Science degree and Doctorate degrees from the University of Strasbourg, France. Mr. Hourani serves as a board member for WellCare Healthplans (NYSE:WCG).
Tana Goering, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Goering joined Pulse in March 2011 as Chief Medical Officer in charge of Implementation. She is a native Kansan, born and raised in Scott City. Following graduation from the University of Kansas in 1991 with a BA in Human Biology, she began medical school in 1992 at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. Following medical school, Dr. Tana completed her three year Family Practice residency at the Wesley Family Practice Residency Program in Wichita. She then joined Hillside Medical Office, a group of 8 family physicians, to begin private practice, caring for the family from newborns to the elderly, including low risk obstetric care.
Dr. Goering is licensed by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, and Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice. She serves on various committees at Wesley Medical Center, and is a clinical instructor with the Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. She is a member of the medical staff at Wesley Medical Center, Via Christi St. Francis and Via Christi St. Joseph.
Personal accomplishments include having a research project article published in Family Practice Management, February 2001, and being named Wichita Business Journal 40 under 40 Class of 2001.
Chris Gregg
SVP Healthcare Information Systems
Mr. Gregg has served as the Product Manager for Pulse since joining the Company in November, 2004. He has more than 16 years of clinical information technology experience. His previous career milestones include clinical designer and EMR implementation at Greenway Medical Technology, senior clinical account manager for Misys; National Director of Operations for WebMD, National Quality Assurance Manager for Kinetra, and as Implementation Director for Integrated Medical Systems. Prior to that, Mr. Gregg served honorably for 10 years in the United States Navy.
Lucien Roberts, MHA, FACMPE
Vice President of Business Development
Mr. Roberts joined Pulse in 2010 in an effort and serves as spokesperson for Pulse in a number of government and national medical organizations, events and committees to advocate for Pulse and their clients concerning the many changes being implemented in the healthcare IT industry. Mr. Roberts also assists in optimizing workflows for Pulse clients sharing his extensive experience in compliance, service excellence, strategic planning, and operations.to After earning his Master of Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1987, Lucien served as an assistant administrator at Johnston-Willis Hospital, where he worked until moving to physician practice management in 1993. In the ensuing years, Mr. Roberts helped position and grow Richmond, VA-based Neurological Associates, Inc., into one of the largest and strongest private practices in the Mid-Atlantic. He has consulted with numerous medical practices, is a frequent speaker at local and national meetings, and writes for Physicians Practice and other publications.
Mr. Roberts is a Certified Medical Practice Executive, a Fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives, and former recipient of the Medical Group Management Association’s (MGMA) Legislative Liaison of the Year Award. He has served and led various organizations, including MGMA’s Government Affairs Committee and Neurosciences Administration Assembly, the Virginia Medical Group Management Association, and the Richmond Medical Group Managers Association.
Elias Hourani, MD
Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Hourani has served as the COO since joining the Company in 2002. Prior to joining the Company, Dr. Hourani served in various capacities from 1991 to 1997 for Physician Corporation of America, including: President and CEO of Physicians First, Inc., a Florida Corporation; President and COO of PCA Healthplans of Florida, a Florida Corporation; President & COO of PCA Family Healthplan, a Florida Corporation. PCA, the holding company, was a publicly traded HMO which was acquired by Humana, Inc., in 1997. Prior to PCA, Dr. Hourani maintained a private surgical practice in Kansas. Dr. Hourani earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Montpellier, France and his Doctorate from the University of Montpellier, School of Medicine, France.
Greg Vap
SVP Sales
Mr. Vap has served in various senior management roles including SVP Professional Services and as Executive Director since joining the Company in 2004. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Vap had spent 25 years in healthcare IT, with positions including COO of VantageMed, a public healthcare IT company. Mr. Vap previously founded and was President and CEO of Healthcare Information Systems, a healthcare IT company based in Kansas City. Mr. Vap earned his Bachelor of Science Electronic Engineering Technology from Missouri Institute of Technologies. In addition, Mr. Vap serves as a board and committee member for various national, regional and local trade organizations.
