Today Surescripts announced that Pulse Systems, Inc. has achieved Gold Solution Provider status for e-prescribing with their software solution. This status is granted to vendors with software products that have surpassed Surescripts’ baseline product certification to meet criteria that demonstrate a higher level of commitment to e-prescribing. E-prescribers using the Pulse Complete EHR solution have prescription benefit information, prescription history and prescription routing. Pulse is one of only seven EHR/EMR Software vendors to achieve this status.

Gold Solution Provider status recognizes physician technology vendors that are advancing electronic prescribing with customers in the United States. This certification identifies physician technology vendors’ products that leverage the complete resources and capabilities of Surescripts and its network to improve the safety, efficiency and quality of the prescribing process.

Basil Hourani, President and CEO of Pulse Systems, Inc., stated, “Pulse has been working diligently for a year to achieve this designation in order to provide Pulse e-prescribing clients with the assurance they are utilizing the safest, most efficient and highest quality e-prescribing solution available. The Surescripts designation provides third party confirmation to our clients that Pulse is accomplishing this goal.”

“For physicians…Gold Solution Provider status helps them know which software vendors are meeting the highest standards for e-prescribing,” said Mary Martin, Senior Vice President of Customers and Markets for Surescripts. “We congratulate Pulse Systems on completing Gold level certification for their respective products in 2010.”

To utilize the Surescripts network, prescribers, pharmacies and PBMs must use software that has completed the Surescripts certification process. This process ensures that the software is able to send and receive electronic messages and share prescription information in accordance with industry standards and that it provides open-choice for medication selection and dispensing location. Additionally, certification focuses on patient safety, efficiency of the electronic prescribing process and ease of use by end users.

Hillside Medical Achieves Meaningful Use

Hillside Medical Achieves Meaningful Use
of Their Certified Pulse Complete EHR System

Hillside Medical Office of Wichita, KS recently achieved the successful attestation of the Meaningful Use of their Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, allowing them to qualify for their first government incentive payments.  Hillside Medical is a group of seven board-certified family medicine physicians and 40 employees with a tradition of medical excellence that dates back to 1947.  In 2009 Hillside Medical began its search for a certified EHR solution soon after the passage of the Health Information Technology for Economic Clinical Health Act.
In just over one year the medical organization successfully implemented both a Practice Management and an EHR and met the standards set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to prove they are successfully implementing the Meaningful Use of the system. Hillside Medical’s search focused on finding an integrated EHR and Practice Management solution that would improve workflow efficiencies and promote continued delivery of quality patient care while advancing use of technology to achieve Government Meaningful Use Objectives. “We looked at a large number of vendors, and then narrowed the search to three after initial assessments,” said David A. Gordon, CPA, Practice Administrator at Hillside Medical.  All functional areas of responsibility participated in the evaluation of those three in order to confirm that the solution selected would meet its needs.

After a formal system selection process, Hillside Medical purchased the PulsePro Practice Management solution and the CCHIT®-certified 2011 Pulse Complete EHR from Pulse Systems, Inc.  Hillside Medical selected the Pulse solution due to various factors including its functionality and flexibility in meeting the needs of the practice in a demanding environment.

Hillside Medical worked with the Kansas Regional Extension Center to select the Clinical Quality Measures that the physicians would utilize to demonstrate its Meaningful Use of a Complete EHR.  They began measuring their progress toward meeting the Meaningful Use requirements in early 2011.  “The Pulse system provided reports which allowed me to quickly and easily measure and monitor our progress on every requirement and identify any adjustments necessary.” said Gordon.

The practice initiated its 90-day meaningful use tracking period on May 1, 2011 and successfully completed its attestation on August 2nd.  Gordon recognizes the hard work and coordinated efforts of the Hillside Medical and Pulse teams in making the transition a smooth process.  “It is remarkable what we have accomplished in only a year.”  Gordon said. “I am proud of my employees and physicians and thankful that we selected Pulse as our vendor.”
